Abstract. The article examines emotional dysregulation as transdiagnostic factor underlying various forms of psychopathology. Emotions play a central role in the process of adaptation, and the ability to regulate them supports effective psychosocial functioning. Deficits in recognizing, understanding, and modulating emotions increase vulnerability to psychological distress and are associated with a wide range of disorders, including affective, anxiety, phobic, eating disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, substance use disorders, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and others. The extended process model describes the key stages of emotion regulation, which can become potential points of regulatory failure, contributing to the development of psychopathological symptoms. The transdiagnostic approach outlines both shared mechanisms across mental disorders and specific features in their clinical presentation. Assessing emotional dysregulation can enhance diagnostic precision and facilitate the development of more targeted and personalized therapeutic interventions.
