Bulgarian Journal of Psychiatry

About the Journal

The journal is a regular quarterly publication started in 2016 and edited by the Bulgarian Psychiatric Association (BPA), the leading organization of the psychiatrists in Bulgaria (member of the World Psychiatric Association). Its aim is to publish high quality research and review papers, predominantly by (but not limited to) Bulgarian mental health professionals, and to communicate mental health policies, best practice guidelines, and research findings between them.

The journal is currently the only one in the country dedicated to the field of mental health and illness, successing previous national specialized periodicals, namely: Mental Health (1938-1940), Modern Medicine: Neurology and Psychiatry (1962-1964), Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neurosurgery (1964-1991), and Bulletin of the BPA (1992-2005).

The content covers topics from clinical psychiatry, advances in neurosciences, clinical psychology, and mental health care. Besides prioritized research and review papers, case reports, book reviews, letters to the editor, and excerpts from classical psychiatric texts under a separate heading, are also included. A clear single-blind peer review process is established. Despite its (mainly) national character, the journal has a regional impact. Full journal content is available online. Manuscript submission is through the e-mail of the journal by following the guidelines for authors.

The journal is indexed in database Bulgarian Medical Literature and Scopus.
