THE “SILENT” PATIENT

Abstract. Two boys with selective mutism from preschool age are presented along with the parents’ difficulties to accept that behind the “silence” a mental disorder may hide requiring assessment by multidisciplinary team and application of psychotherapeutic interventions for an extended period of time. The difficulties that both children and their parents face in order to receive school education are discussed.
