Abstract. In this paper we aim to investigate types of personality and to identify the leading styles of communication among future doctors. We are focusing indirectly on the topic of personality and the role of doctor–patient relationship in the healing process. The objective of the study is presented by survey of 114 medical students in their third year. The results were discussed with the students during their seminar classes. A Bulgarian version of a questionnaire, built on Jung’s theoretical model supplemented by Myers–Briggs, was used. The results indicate domination of the sensory, thinking and evaluating types, which partly explains the barriers to authentic and empathic connection with the patients – more characteristic for the feeling and intuitive types.
Key words: personality types, doctor–patient interaction, therapeutic communication
