FIRST PSYCHOTIC EPISODE – PRODROMES AND PREDICTORS

Abstract: The present review investigates the issue of psychosis risk assessment, which has been the focus of extensive research throughout the past decades. Initially, the concept of psychosis risk is inspected through the lens of the prodrome by way of historical overview of the pre-psychotic state. Next, a concise description of current approaches to early detection of individuals with clinical high risk of psychosis follows. In this pursuit, emphasis is placed on operational understanding of pre-psychotic manifestations along with the feasibility for application of the contemporary approaches in clinical practice. The presentation of current diagnostic paradigms elucidating the psychotic prodrome is paramount to the development of effective preventive interventions in the future.
